Help & common questions

Something not working, or a document reading badly? Email gabi10004@gmail.com — a real person reads every message.

What can Docuspeak read?

PDFs, EPUB books, plain text files, and anything you paste from the clipboard. You can import from the Files app with the plus card in your library, or share a document to Docuspeak from any other app.

Does it work without internet?

Yes, completely. The voice runs on your phone, so everything works in airplane mode. This is also why the app is a large download — the entire speech model ships inside it rather than living on a server.

My PDF is a scan and nothing happens

A scanned PDF is a picture of a page, with no text underneath for the app to read. Docuspeak will tell you when a PDF has no readable text. Support for scanned documents is planned but not available yet.

Can it read books from Apple Books or Kindle?

No. Books bought through those stores are encrypted with DRM and cannot be opened by other apps. DRM-free EPUBs work — including everything from Project Gutenberg, most direct-from-publisher purchases, and books you have made yourself.

How do I change the voice?

Tap the Voice tab at the bottom of the library, or the waveform button at the top of the reader while a document is open. You can preview any voice before choosing it, and changes apply immediately — including in the middle of playback.

It skipped something I wanted to hear

For PDFs and EPUBs, Docuspeak leaves out page numbers, running headers, footnotes and reference lists so they don't interrupt the text. Nothing is thrown away: tap the skip-log button in the reader to see everything that was left out and read it yourself.

A document reads badly — wrong order, odd pronunciation, run-on sentences

This is the most useful thing you can report, and the fix is much faster if you send the file itself. Email the document to gabi10004@gmail.com with a note about what sounded wrong. Documents sent this way become test cases, so the same problem cannot come back in a later version.

Playback stopped when I locked the screen

Docuspeak is designed to keep reading with the screen off, including from the lock screen controls. If it stops, please report it with your iPhone model and iOS version, and export diagnostics from the Voice tab — the log records why playback ended.

How do I get Docuspeak?

It's finishing testing before release on the App Store. If you'd like it in the meantime, email gabi10004@gmail.com and you'll get it through Apple's TestFlight app, free.

Still stuck?

Write to gabi10004@gmail.com. Including your iPhone model, your iOS version, and what you were doing when it went wrong makes it much easier to help. If the app is behaving oddly, the Voice tab has a diagnostics export you can attach.
